Detroit – — Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick says he should spend no more than 15 years in federal prison, about half as much time sought by prosecutors in the City Hall corruption case.
Kilpatrick, 43, made the request Friday, one day after federal prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds to send the former mayor to prison for at least 28 years.
His lawyer argues the government has wrongly tried to enhance Kilpatrick’s sentence and increase the amount of time behind bars.
