Kim Foxx Text Messages Regarding Jussie Smollett and R. Kelly Shows that Justice System is Flawed

More information has been released regarding Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx handling of Empire actor Jussie Smollett case. Foxx’s office released nearly 200 pages of texts screenshots and 3,600 pages of emails this week that revealed conversations between public officials. In one of those texts, Kim Foxx  called Smollett a “washed up celebrity” and said that she “rescued” herself from his case. She also called R. Kelly a pedophile and compared his case to Smollett. She said: ‘Pedophile with 4 victims 10 counts. ‘Washed up celeb who lied to cops, 16.’ 

The texts revealed how flawed the justice system can be for certain people. It is not a matter of  guilt or innocence, but authorities basing their decisions on personal issues that has nothing to do with your case. Foxx made it clear that deciding to charge someone with a crime can sometimes be arbitrary decision.  ‘On a case eligible for deferred prosecution I think it’s indicative of something we should be looking at generally. Just because we can charge something doesn’t mean we should,’ she said. To read more about this story click here.
