Kool G. Rap a Queens NY native and member of producer Marley Marl’s legendary Juice Crew was about to change some of that. He and DJ Polo dropped their now classic debut album Road to Riches in 89; and laid the foundation for the next group of hardcore emcees that followed. G. Rap’s rapid delivery and tales about the dark side of the New York streets gave him an underground following that exists to this day. He is unofficially cited as the forefather of the mass hardcore movement that took place in the 90’s. Artists like Big Pun, Nas, and Mobb Deep all have cited G. Rap as a major influence on their music and career.

imageWe caught up with the Rap Legend after a show in Chicago and asked him how he felt about influencing so many great artists. We also chatted about more topics including his plans to drop new music in 2015. Read more about the “Ill Street Blues” artist and check out footage from his show below.

BLACK TRUTH NEWS: How do you feel Brother?

Kool G. Rap: I’m good! Good to be here

BTN: No doubt. So what’s new; Is any new music coming out soon?

KGRap: We got new music, but no definitive date. Definitely, something will be dropping in 2015, but we don’t have any date on it yet. A new project will be coming next year called “Hustler’s Bible”

BTN: How does it feel to be one of the legends in the game? To be an influence to the people that came after you?

KGRap: It feels good to do that for people. When I look at a lot of cats that I influence, you know that’s my reward back for putting everything in the game as I did. It is revered by some artists like Eminem, JAY Z, Wu-Tang, and the late great Big Pun.
