Though his life was cut tragically short, Paul C McKasty, a/k/a Paul C is regarded by those who know his work as one of the all-time great innovators in hip-hop production. Over the past 13 years, self-described “record collector and hip-hop activist” Pritt Kalsi conducted a plethora of video interviews with the late Queens-bred boardsman’s friends, family and creative collaborators – including Rakim, Ultramagnetic‘s Ced Gee, TR Love and Moe Luv, Pharoahe Monch, Casanova Rud, Mikey D and more. The film, Kalsi admits, is a work in progress. But he’s elected to share it on-line in the hopes that public enthusiasm for the project may help see it to completion. As the title describes, this is at heart a series of personal recollections and appreciations of McKasty’s artistry – including some incredible early footage of The Mandolindley Roadshow, the early ’80s rock band in which he played bass.
