The second woman who accused Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of rape said she was also raped by former NBA player Cory Maggatte. Meredith Watson’s lawyer released a statement last Friday that revealed what happened to her client. “Ms. Watson was raped by a basketball player during her sophomore year at Duke. She went to the Dean, who provided no help and discouraged her from pursuing the claim further. Ms. Watson also told friends, including Justin Fairfax,” the statement said. Maggatte played for Duke in the 1998-99 season. He went on to play 13 seasons in the NBA. Watson claimed that the raped occurred in 1999.Maggatte released a statement through Times that denied the allegation. “It has only been through media accounts and a statement from Meredith Watson’s lawyer that I first learned or heard of anything about these sexual assault allegations,” Maggatte said. “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my life and I completely and categorically deny any such charge,” he continued.
