According to USA Today, Macy’s is reviewing its “store portfolio” and will likely make an announcement at its Investor Day on Feb. 5.
At least one Macy’s location in Florida will begin clearance sales in January that will last eight to 12 weeks.
Stores in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Washington are among those set to close, so far.
A Macy’s spokesperson told Business Insider that non-season employees who were not transferred to other locations and were laid off would receive severance.
The retail apocalypse has already touched on the new year. Pier One announced Monday it would be closing 450 of its stores and may file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
