The family of Earl Valentine Jr. are mourning the 15-year-old and praying for the survival of his mother, Keisha, after both were shot in their home on Tuesday. Earl Jr. had reportedly attempted to intervene and protect his mother from being attacked, when Earl Valentine Sr. showed up intent upon murdering Keisha, a year after their relationship had degenerated to the point of a domestic violence restraining order that had just expired a month ago. “She lied on me, had warrants taken out on me. She drug me all the way down to nothing,” Valentine said in the chilling video of the stream. “I know a lot of y’all are going to be disappointed in me, but it was something that had to be done.”
Authorities were able to track Valentine’s cellphone at his father’s grave in Virginia on Wednesday morning, but didn’t catch up until they later located him in Columbia, South Carolina, where U.S. Marshals found him dead in a motel room. Valentine Jr. had been able to contact police in order to identify his father as responsible for the shooting, confirming what some family members might have suspected after they had reportedly been involved in a heated Facebook exchange with the killer just hours earlier. Valentine Sr. had also made contact with authorities after the attack, revealing plans to follow it up by pursuing relatives of his ex-wife, before taking his life.
Keisha Valentine had fled to North Carolina from the former couple’s residence in Virginia, in order to escape the abusive relationship. She remains in critical condition.
