Mardi Gras Could be the Reason for Coronavirus Surge in Louisiana

On Sunday, it was revealed that Louisiana has the fastest growing rate of Coronavirus in the world. Louisiana state governor John Bel Edwards used findings from a University of Louisiana Lafayette study to state that there has been  “a ten-time increase in seven days.”

Dr. Corey Hebert, chief medical officer at Dillard University in New Orleans and an assistant professor at Tulane and Louisiana State Universities told BET.com that the Mardi Gras might be responsible for the increase.

“In Mardi Gras, people are one foot away from each other, but people were also showing no symptoms and were able to spread it,” Hebert said. “There’s really not many ways to get around that concept. It’s all speculation, but that makes the most sense.”
