Marvin’s Gaye Family Wins Lawsuit Against Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ Song. Does This Hurt Artists Creative Process?

According to NME.com via The Hollywood Reporter, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams will have to pay half of the royalties to Marvin Gaye’s family for their song ‘Blurred Lines.’ A 9th Circuit of Appeals upheld a 2015 verdict that said the Blurred Lines song shared similarities to Marvin Gaye’s 1977’s ‘Got to Give it Up’ song. In 2016, Pharrell and Thicke appealed the verdict but have ultimately lost the case. T.I, who is featured on the song, does not have to pay any damages. To read more about this story click here.
