Over the years, Meagan Good has appeared in several films. The veteran actress has been on the screen since she was a child. Now she will be adding director to her resume as she steps behind the camera in the new film, ‘IF NOT NOW, WHEN?’
The movie was written by Meagan’s friend Tamara Bass, and the two ladies also star in the movie. They are joined by Mekia Cox and Meagan Holder and the four ladies focus on friendship.
Recently Meagan Good and Tamara Bass sat down with Ebony and talked about their new film. Good talked about there hasn’t been a movie that represented the true side of Black Women friendship since ‘Waiting to Exhale.”
“Coming together, we discussed how we witnessed a void in the slice of life films that happen to showcase people of color. Particularly women of color. We knew that we were represented recently in the comedy genre and had played second fiddle to men for years,” she said.
“But, having our stories be front and center in a heartfelt drama, hadn’t been seen since WAITING TO EXHALE. And we were due. Women are consumers too! Hence the voyage of IF NOT NOW, WHEN? was born,” she continued.
For Good and Bass the film represented more than seeing Black Women on screen. “If we can break through the barriers of only being seen in a particular light, we have the ability to change the way our stories are told. And while we understood this journey was filled with lofty ambitions, we knew that we possessed the skills, determination and drive to make that goal a reality. The end result is a film filled with a lot of love, heart and a love letter to our sisterhood,” says the two women.
