Michael Jordan only wants from Dominick’s what is fair, lawyer says

He shook his head in disbelief as he played jurors a video clip of a deposition in which Jordan said that he thought it was “fair” that he collected a $100,000 payment from a Japanese TV company that did not understand that it did not have to pay him to make a documentary about him.

He also told the jury that the expert hired by Dominick’s, University of Michigan professor Rodney Fort, had used a “tried and true” method to come up with the figure of $126,900 for what was “an extremely limited use” of Jordan’s name.

“Michael Jordan deserves each and every one of the accolades he’s received for his play on the basketball court. Nobody can take that away from him, and I won’t try to take away from him the pride he’s given to the city, for bringing those championships to Chicago,” he said. “Safeway is not running away from its responsibilities … but Michael Jordan and more importantly his advisers seem to have lost their sense of fairness.”

Jurors began their deliberations around 12:30 p.m.
