Mixtape Review: Jai Harris: “Disconnected Vol.1”

The lyrics are hidden in plain view, meaning Jai was able to get her point across without overshadowing the production or killing the groove of the song. I found that to be the most impressive and intriguing aspect of the album, because most spoken word artists that I have seen perform, either do it a-cappella or with the assistance of a band providing a light rhythm.

That scenario gives a dominant role to the artist and makes the beat more of a backdrop; by contrast ‘Disconnected’ plays more like a Hip hop musical, where the words and the beats are more in sync, and form together to give you a complete experience.

Credit should be given to producer DJ Vudu Spellz for his work on the album, the beats are dope and crisp, and work perfectly with Jai Harris voice and delivery. The DJ/Producer who resides in Deftal Las Vegas, and has been credited with production on Ludacris and Jaime Foxx song ‘Georgia’, provides a professional sound to the album and gives it an overall sharpness that most independent artist lack on their material.
