NBA makes changes to All-Star voting

For the first time, NBA players and select basketball media members will vote for the Eastern and Western conference starters in the Feb. 19 game in New Orleans, the league said in a news release.

Fans will make up 50% of the vote, and NBA players and media each will comprise 25% of the vote.

This is a major change to the voting format and may — we will see how the results play out — balance out the annual dilemma of voting for popular players vs. players who deserve to start.

Like the fans, players and media will vote for two backcourt players and three frontcourt players. Each player and media member can vote once, and players can vote for themselves and teammates.

Player and media votes will not be disclosed, and about 75 media members will vote.
