ESPN reported that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft went to visit Meek Mill in jail yesterday (04.11.18). Since the Philadelphia rapper has been sentenced to do 2-4 years in a state prison, he has received support from a wide variety of celebrities throughout the sports and entertainment world. However, to get the support of Robert Kraft is a little bit different.

Kraft is a 76 year old White billionaire from Massachusetts, and probably doesn’t even listen to rap music. He said he has been knowing Meek for a few years through his friend, entrepreneur Michael Rubin. He  and Rubin not only visited Meek, but Kraft  vouch for his character and suggested that he should be freed. “I’ve had the pleasure, through Michael, [of] getting to know him over the last two to three years — maybe even longer. Every time I see him, I just come away more impressed. It makes it clear to me we have to do something with criminal justice reform.” Kraft said.  He continued by saying: “He’s an amazing young man…He’s very intelligent.”

Having the endorsement of someone as prominent as Kraft maybe be significant for Meek’s freedom; but maybe not. Like the late great Bernie Mac said in one of his routines  “when White folks come and see you… you somebody.” Hopefully that perception materialize into reality in terms of releasing Meek Mill from prison. However, his presiding judge has been steadfast on keeping him there. She recently said it was absolutely necessary that he serve out the entirety of his sentence. Either way, it is good to have friends in high places and Meek Mill being associated with Robert Kraft seems to be a big deal for the rapper. Maybe in the future, that association will help change how the system treat him and others like him in the future.
