Yesterday (03.10.20) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that their state will be making their own hand sanitizer. During a press conference Cuomo unveiled the “NYS Clean” hand sanitizer. He said that it is superior to existing products based on its scent and 75% alcohol content.
Cuomo also stated that they have the capacity to make 100,000 gallons a week. The reason this is possible because the state will be using prison inmates to make the product. It was not stated how much the prisoners will make, but currently inmates in New York are being paid $0.10 to $0.33 cents a hour. The product will not be sold be to the public. It will be given out to the schools, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), government agencies and prisons.
