“NFL Mexico apologizes for the unacceptable tweet yesterday, which does not represent the values of the league. We reiterate our solidarity with Mexico,” the tweet says.
The earthquake, which registered as an 8.2 on the Richter scale, killed at least 58 people and caused buildings to collapse in the southwest region of the country, according to the Washington Post.
The original tweet read, “Those times Mexico City shakes with an earthquake because it can’t believe the Chiefs have won the #Kickoff2017 game.”
