Nigga Hate

pac speak jayzBy contrast the younger Hip Hop Community has embraced the word and has incorporated it within the dialect of their culture. Popular rapper Jay-Z in an interview with Oprah Winfrey explained the insignificance of eliminating the word and its perceived power. “People give words power and for our generation, what we did was took that word and we took the power out that word. We turn a word that was very ugly and hurtful and turn into a term of endearment. So I mean even when someone says it, it stills has bad intention behind what you say, but we pretty much took the power out the word. If we start removing words from the dictionary than someone will make up another word the next day; so if we don’t address the problem. The problem is racism. That’s really the problem.” He said.

You say Tomato; I say tomato

How do you feel about the word? I got a friend who is half Mexican and Puerto Rican and he says the word all the time. I ask him why he said the word so much, and his response was: “that Puerto Ricans are the same bloodline as Blacks and we get treated like shit too.” Fair Enough, but he has kids who probably are saying it also and I doubt if they know the root of the word. It’s a Fashionable word now, and not just amongst Blacks folks but for young people of all colors. My friend said anyone can be a nigga “it’s just a stupid or lazy person.”

Yeah that is Webster definition and it sounds good in theory; but I think we need to start to be truthful about the situation and not minimize the significance of that word or the Black experience here in America. We can’t bury that word as those people foolishly try to do in the NAACP; nor can we bury our past. They just stop public lynching’s of Niggers about 40 years ago. So we can’t ignore it! We have to educate the youth so they will have understanding and be equipped for the future!
