NY Giants Player Daniel Fells May Lose Foot Due to Staph Infection: Reports

The 32-year-old tight end for the NFL team is fighting Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), which made him miss Sunday’s game and could potentially have more dire consequences.

According to multiple reports, including one from the NFL, if Fells’ condition doesn’t improve, he could lose his foot. He has reportedly had five surgeries thus far and doctors are trying to stave off further infection.

His condition first came to light when Fells sustained a toe injury and then an ankle injury. Earlier this month he was taken to the emergency room, where doctors discovered the source of his continued pain and diagnosed him with MRSA.

If the MRSA gets into his bones, it could travel into his blood and have very serious consequences. On Sunday night, Fells Instagrammed his team’s logo, writing, “My heart is with my brothers tonight. Get that W G-men. I love every one of you #thiswillnotdefeatme.”

“We dedicated the game to Daniel Fells and his family and thank God we were able to give him that game ball,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said in a postgame press conference
