(Newser)    At a fundraiser hosted by Jay-Z and Beyonce last night, President Obama noted that he and the rapper have a lot in common. What, they’re both fans of 18-foot champagne towers? Not exactly. “We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are,” Obama cracked. “So, you know, we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s OK.” He also thanked “J and B” for their “friendship,” and called Beyonce a great role model for his daughters. “Michelle, Sasha, and Malia are mad at me because they aren’t here,” he added.

Other than that pricey champagne tower, the 100 or so guests enjoyed finger food and wine at Jay-Z’s glitzy, dimly lit 40/40 club in New York. Obama didn’t just talk about his celebrity hosts, of course: During his political remarks, the president made a rare, albeit implied, reference to his position as the first black US president, Politico reports. “We’ve made history in the past,” he said, “and we’re going to make history in the next seven weeks.”
