In a new book, one of his senior aides, Alyssa Mastromonaco, claims that the ex-prez tried to set her up with Hollywood powerhouse producer Lawrence Bender — with dismal results.
Mastromonaco writes in “Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? And Other Questions You Should Have Answers to When You Work in the White House” that the president “enjoyed gossiping about my dating life (or lack thereof).”
And the Washington insider, who served as Obama’s White House deputy chief of staff for operations, says that at an event at Bender’s house in Los Angeles “[a colleague] and I were sitting in the den reading our Blackberries when Obama came over and told me that he had ‘found someone’ for me and that I should ‘get off the couch and come be social.’ ”
In the book, on shelves March 21, Mastromonaco says, “It turned out the person he’d ‘found’ for me was Lawrence Bender himself — the man who produced ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ ‘Reservoir Dogs,’ and almost all of Quentin Tarantino’s movies afterward.” In the past, Bender has been linked to a series of glamorous women, including Molly Sims, before she met and married Scott Stuber.
Mastromonaco — who now works for Vice Media and is married to David Krone — adds, “I appreciated Obama’s opinion of me, but I was pretty sure Lawrence Bender was not going to be interested in me, or even understand why Obama was dragging my ass up to talk to him. I stayed on the couch.”
Perhaps Obama should get some lessons from fellow Democrat Chuck Schumer.
The senator is reportedly very proud of his record as a matchmaker — there have been 11 marriages between his staff members during his time in Congress. In 2015, Schumer told CBS about his Cupid-like abilities, “When I see, you know, two single people who might be good for each other — I’m not the most subtle guy in the world, but I try as subtly and as gently as I can. ‘Oh, she’s nice, he’s nice.’ ”
