One of Only 30 Black NHL Players Joins Anthem Protests and Receives Death Threats

I must admit, I didn’t know there were any Black players in the NHL. Well I do remember hearing about one, but I couldn’t tell you his name or point him out in lineup. That might change after Tampa Bay Lighting forward J.T Brown joined the movement of professional players protesting the injustices in this country by sitting during the National Anthem. Brown, who is only one of about 30 Black players in the NHL wrote about why he chose to join the movement on his Twitter account. of protests.“In my life, I have been through more than my fair share of racism both on and off the ice. There comes a time when you cannot remain silent, hoping and wishing for a change. It takes much more,” he said in his post following the game with the Panthers.
