Ownership is Rare Air for Blacks in Sports

I wonder if Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford faced this type criticism when his team went an imperfect 0-16 in 2008. Or were there any suggestions for Joe Ricketts to sell the Chicago Cubs after his squad didn’t make it to the World Series for over the 100th year in a row. The point is; there always have been bad, losing teams throughout sports. There will always be a team in every league that the competition can count on for a win when times get tough.
In most cases, the owners are the last people who get blamed; so why so hard on Jordan? Some will point to his three year tenure from 2000-2003, as President of Basketball operations for the Washington Wizards, they will use this as evidence for Jordan lack of competence in the front office. While with the Wizards, Jordan was ridicule for drafting NBA bust Kwame Brown as the number one pick and making other questionable basketball decisions like trading NBA all-star Richard Hamilton. Despite those moves, he was still able to turn a profit for Wizards owner Abe Polin, even if it meant he had to suit up and play again at age 40.
