Police and Media not Giving Enough Attention to the Possibility of Serial Killer Murdering Black Women in Chicago

94 percent of the victims have been found in trash cans, in alleys or abandoned homes. 76 percent of the women have been Black and 75 percent were associated with some sexual component. In addition to that, the age of the victims have increased over the last 15 years. Thomas Hargrove, head of the Murder Accountability Project said there is enough evidence to suspect it may be a serial killer.  “This would be commensurate with a killer who is comfortable with older targets, and perhaps becoming more comfortable as he or they age,” Hargrove said.

Chicago police have indicated that it has included the FBI in on the investigation to try help solve the cases. According to Block Club Chicago, they made this declaration as early as April. However to some people, it may not be enough. “I’m here to say and to tell law enforcement: do not dismiss this!  Don’t keep going about this like you’re trying to prove a point that it’s not a serial killer!” said Ricardo Holyfield, who is the cousin of one of the victims.

The press conference proved there is a lack of dismissal from the police, but also from mainstream media. There was more media coverage on the Jussie Smollett case than the unsolved murders of these women. I know there has been a lot of violence in general in Chicago, but this matter cannot be put on the back burner. For those people in the Chicago area who have any information regarding this matter; please contact your local police department.
