NBA Magic Johnson made a surprising announcement that he was stepping down as president of basketball operation for the Los Angeles Lakers. Magic told reporters the news before the Lakers final regular season game against the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday. “It’s a difficult decision. I cried before I came here,” Johnson told reporters. “I am about to cry now. It’s hard when you love an organization the way I love this organization. It’s hard when you love a person like I love Jeanie [Buss]. I don’t want to disappoint her,” he continued.
Johnson exit comes after the Lakers failed to make the playoffs despite the arrival of LeBron James. Magic stated his decision was not based on the Lakers struggles but on his personal happiness. “I want to go back to having fun,” Magic said. “I want to go back to being who I was before taking on this job.” he continued.
