Prince’s Estate Claim Tidal Has Streamed His Music Without Permission

Prince has previously allowed his music to be streamed exclusively with Tidal, his estate believe the company had no right to release 15 of his albums following his death.

In October 2015, Jay Z made an offer of $40 million, which was decline as the singer’s estate didn’t want “Roc Nation to exploit any of the intellectual property assets of the Estate.”

The offer made by Jay Z was for Prince’s previously unreleased material, but soon after his offer was declined, Universal Music Group gained the rights to the catalogue.

It is believed that Prince already had a deal with Tidal to release his 2015 album, HitNRun, through the streaming service.

Yet Prince’s estate claim that there is no proof that Prince recieved the $750,000 that he was offered for the exclusive release.

Tidal look set to pay out some compensation to Prince’s estate.
