Many people say Las Vegas isn’t much of a city beyond the hotels and tourists. What have you learned about the real Vegas during your time there?

I can say that it’s a major contributor to the city but I think that’s a common misconception that Las Vegas is just tourism and hotels. There’s also a city behind that that not a lot of people get to see. The one thing that I found and like from my time spent there is that everybody has a hustle. I had a chance to take tai-chi classes one of the mornings I was there. Later on that night the same instructor of the class I attended was a street performer by night. That’s the type of atmosphere I like to be around. Outside of the tourist attractions, it has a real down-to-earth feel. There’s also a big entrepreneurial side of the city with the locals that I love. Everybody has a dream and they take it one step at a time to achieve that dream, whether it’s making it big or owning their own business. More so, for them, I think it’s more about being independent and doing what they want to do with their lives. Also, the barter system is still alive in Vegas which is something I can relate to. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. So that’s definitely something that I can rock with. I’m an advocate for anyone in any city willing to live their life the way they want, as opposed to conforming to what society dictates is ” the right thing”. Not to mention, living right in the thick of tourist Las Vegas gets old after a while. I value being able to get away from it all sometimes. I also value not being far away from it that I’m not able to get to it when I want to. I think it’s all just a balance, and that balance happens to work well for me.
