Recent Arrests of Rappers Casanova and G Herbo shows that Hip Hop’s Glamour and Glitz isn’t always Real

Casanova has turned himself in to authorities after being implicated with 17 other individuals for various crimes that span from murder to fraud. Since all the defendants are allegedly part of the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation, they are being persecuted under the RICO act which means they are considered a criminal organization. This is a serious offense for the Brooklyn rapper who is specifically being charged with firearm possession, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and racketeering conspiracy.

The same is true for Chicago rapper G Herbo. The 25-year-old artist whose real name is Herbert Wright III was charged with four other individuals with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. It is alleged that Herbo and the other defendants used stolen credit card information to purchase things like private jets, yacht charters, exotic car rentals, luxury hotel and vacation rentals.

The question may be asked why would two entertainers who seemed to be making money from their music would be doing unlawful things to get money. The answer reveals that a lot of artists are perpetuating a lie when it comes to how they are able to live such a glamourous lifestyle.

The truth is the record business and the entertainment industry has always been placed that executives make the money and the artists do the work. The sad thing about rap artist is that the rap culture is surrounded around the perception that in order to be successful, you have to look successful. Unfortunately, not too many individuals are actually “ballin” like you they want you to believe. Actually, a lot of them struggling like a lot other people in the world.

Hopefully, Casanova and G Herbo will get out of this jam and be able to continue on with their careers. And hopefully, the fans and the impressionable people who believe that the artists are actually living the life that they portray on social media and videos don’t believe the hype. Keeping it real is a phrase that should be reintroduced in Hip Hop and in our community. Then hopefully it will reduce the number of people getting locked up and dying while chasing was not real.
