Stacey Abrams Camp Says Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is trying “intimidation tactics” in Email Probe of her Campaign Records

The Georgia Ethics Commission has requested to review thousands of emails and bank statements from Democrat Stacey Abrams gubernatorial campaign in 2018. Abrams has already turned over 3,600 pages of  financial records to state ethics officials. However she has refused to turn over 19 emails to the commission office. Ten of those emails are communication between her and State Senator Nikema Williams, who is also the head of the Democratic Party of Georgia. The other nine are from her interaction between her and civil rights organization called New Georgia Project.

Abrams’ campaign lawyer, Joyce Gist Lewis, said: “Demanding that the Abrams campaign identify and produce ‘all communications’ months following the certification of the election results is unreasonable and extraordinary.”  Meanwhile, Abrams campaign manager  Lauren Groh-Wargo said the records request was an “unprecedented abuse of power”  by Georgia governor Brian Kemp. “This move by Kemp’s so-called ‘ethics’ commissioner is an unprecedented abuse of power against his political opponent and specifically targeting organizations that engage voters of color,” she tweeted. “These intimidation tactics will not stand,” she continued.
