Curry was working with the national foundation Nothing But Nets, which solicits donations to buy netting for rural African populations. It is said that malaria kills more than 600,000 people each year, mostly children and mostly in Africa.
Rick Reilly, the ESPN columnist who started the foundation when he wrote a column about donations in 2006, accompanied Curry on the trip and was extremely impressed. “What 25-year-old NBA kid, coming off the season of his life, would do that?” Reilly asked. “He was hanging nets in mud huts.”
