Supreme Court: Police Need a Warrant to Search Cell Phone

The Supreme Court has unanimously ruled in a landmark digital privacy decision concerning police officers’ ability to search a suspect’s cellphone upon arrest. Police officers had previously been able to search a person’s cellphone without requiring any approval, however, Supreme Court Justices have now ruled that officers must obtain a warrant in order to search a person’s cellphone due to that fact that the devices contain large amounts of data and information related to a person’s private life.
