Recently the Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to prohibit people from trademark offensive slurs and symbols. They felt that under freedom of speech it was legal for people and companies to use racially and derogatory names and symbols to promote their products. This means that you can trademark the swastika symbol or the N-word. According the Chicago Defender via Reuters, there already have been seven companies who have tried to trademark the N-word in various forms. The ruling should create an interesting twist on the way people promote their business or products. Do you think this ruling is fair? Leave your comments below.
