The state of Texas is leading a lawsuit to block a new federal regulation that forbids discrimination against transgender people, claiming the rule would force some doctors to perform transition procedures on children. The suit, announced by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, is to be filed Tuesday on behalf of the Franciscan Alliance, a Catholic hospital and health-care network, and in partnership with four other states. A spokesperson for the Texas Attorney General’s Office confirmed the suit to The Texas Tribune. The federal rule, proposed in May by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, would prevent health-care providers from denying or limiting health-care services for transgender people.
