That time Super Producer Mike Will Made-it Shitted on Me for trying to Interview him without Permission… (But he still answered my question)

Following his appearance on a panel where he talked about discovering Rae Sremmurd and producing for Beyonce, I caught up with him backstage.  After patiently waiting until he was through shaking hands and taking pictures with friends and fans, I introduced myself. From past experiences, I know that it be a crapshoot getting a warm reception from celebrities. Yet and still, you still have to be polite, serious, persistent, and hope for the best.

When I told him who I was and preceded to ask him a question, he asked me: “was this an interview?” He wasn’t rude, but rather calm and matter of fact. I repeated who I was and stated my question again and he once again asked me: “was this an interview?” I then realized he was quite serious and he told me as such.

He quickly explained that in the midst of everything that he didn’t know what to think when I walked up with a camera and started talking. I understood what he was saying, it wasn’t what I did, it was how I did it. Instead of diving right into asking questions, it would have been nice to ask for permission first.

It was a lesson learned and a good experience. And even though I lowkey felt like he shitted on me, he was still cool enough to answer a question before walking away.
