4.) Too Short: I remember my aunt used to say “I hate him, he is just too nasty!” She was referring to the character created by Todd Shaw who we all know as Too Short. Believe it or not, there was a time where having half naked women in your video and calling them bitches was not a norm in Hip Hop. In fact people like Too Short and the ‘2 Live Crew’ were banned from music shows and radio stations altogether.
When you consider that activist’s were stomping (literally) out rap CD’s on the pavement during the 90’s, you might then consider Too Short as one of the best. He has remained true to his style and content despite the critics. I believe remaining true to who you are; is the definition of an artist.
“Short Dog” has been in the game for over thirty years and has nine consecutive albums that have gone either gold or platinum. And despite dropping songs like “The Ghetto” and “Life is Too Short”; he still remains the go to guy for artist when they need someone to drop some adult lyrics in their song. Not bad for someone who once wasn’t considered lyrical or creative and was deemed too raunchy and vulgar.
