The Estate of Tupac and Other Artists Sue Universal Music for Damaged Master Recordings

The attorneys for several artists have filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group for Master Recordings damaged in a 2008 fire. An estimated 500,000 recordings were destroyed in the fire and some of the files included music from Billie Holiday to Nirvana. The estates of Tupac and Tom Petty are in the lawsuit that seeks “50% of any settlement proceeds and insurance payments received by UMG for the loss of the Master Recordings, and 50% of any remaining loss of value not compensated by such settlement proceeds and insurance payments.” To read more about this story click here.
