The ‘Psychic’ Miss Cleo Dies at 53

A rep for the TV staple — whose real name was Youree Harris — said she passed this morning in Palm Beach County, Florida. She was reportedly recently hospitalized, but was discharged last week to hospice care.

According to her rep, she was initially diagnosed with colon cancer, but it eventually spread to her liver and lungs. During her last days, she remained a “pillar of strength” and died surrounded by loved ones.

Miss Cleo’s Jamaican character and her iconic psychic commercials instantly became a classic staple of the ’90s, popularizing the catchphrase, “Call me now!”

Though her character was West Indian, Miss Cleo was actually born in LA.

While her career as a television psychic ended after the Psychic Readers Network closed up shop, she reamined in the entertainment industry, voicing a character in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Our condolences go out to her friends and family during this time.
