Timbuck2 Tribute At House of Blues Was A Night To Remember [Recap: Chicago’s TFJ Foundation 3rd Annual Event #Timbuck2]

After a brief intermission, the crowd a treat from the legendary DJ Scratch, he performed a set that included a set called “area code.” If you unfamiliar with DJ Scratch and his resume, you can catch his exclusive interview with Blacktruth.net right here. I did get some footage of his set, you can watch that below.

The night got even better, when Pete Rock hit the stage, got behind the turntables and gave a soulful DJ set. What made the set unique, was that PR not only played classic Hip Hop songs but the original songs that inspired them. Before he left, Pete Rock gave a touching tribute to Timbuck2 by dedicating his classic song T.R.O.Y (They Reminisce Over You) to him. Watch the footage below

For some reason, at the conclusion of the Pete Rock set, it felt like the show was over with. There was not a lot of activity on stage and I saw some people leave. Probably it was to set the stage for what was going to take place next. While the DJ was spinning an instrumental of a Wu-Tang record, Raekwon the Chef hit the stage. To say it was a surprise would be an understatement. The Chef appear on stage and proceeded to give the crowd one of the best performances the crowd could ask for. Rae was razor sharp as he went through a full set of all the Wu-Tang classics.  And it wasn’t the more popular songs; Rae went through bangers from the ‘Purple Tape’ like “Rainy Dayz” and “Glaciers of Ice.” My limited footage of his performance, was primarily due in part to the fact I was too busy singing the lyrics and enjoying the show. I apologize, but I was kind of immersed in the show and magic of the night. I did catch a poignant moment at the end, as Raekwon saluted Timbuck2 and showed his appreciation for the crowd and the city of Chicago. I did catch that moment and you can catch it below.

When the smoke cleared, it turned out to be a memorable night in Chicago. Even though Timbuck2 wasn’t there to share the moment; I’m sure if he was present, he would have been proud. I was one of those people who went to his parties that he had at a Chicago spot called Beauty Bar. The atmosphere at the House of Blues was amplified version of the Beauty Bar. In fact it was turnt up to highest level. Kudos to the TFJ Foundation, to the city of Chicago and Rest in Peace Timbuck2
