TN City Creates Ordinance Banning Sagging Pants to Protect the Health of Its Residents

Civil liberties groups have called bans such as this unconstitutional stating that such a ban is a violation of a person’s rights. They have argued that no citizen should be ‘deprived of life, liberty or property and no person should be denied equal protection of the law.’

Note: Pikeville city ordinance requires three readings for this ban to take effect. It looks like it will be implemented within a couple of months. The mayor and the city council want to be very clear that they are addressing public indecency.

As an FYI – in the state of Louisiana, (Jefferson Davis and Terrebonne Parish) have passed ordinances in recent months banning wearing saggy pants or face a fine for doing so.
