In 1992, Congress— partially spurred by public interest in Oliver Stone’s conspiracy-heavy hit film JFK— passed the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act. The law declassified most of the assassination files during the nineties, and set approximately 3,000 more to be declassified 25 years later.
