Two Killed in Shooting Outside Meek Mill Concert in Connecticut

Police have not released the identities of the four victims, but the family of one of the men killed in the shooting identified him as 31-year-old Travis Ward, NBC Connecticut reports. The two people injured in the shooting were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

No suspects have been taken into custody following the incident, which took place in a parking lot near the Oakdale Theatre. Investigators believe the suspect was involved in a hit-and-run accident while fleeing the scene following the shooting.

According to the Record-Journal, Meek Mill had just finished his performance when the shooting occurred. Video from the time of the incident, approximately 11:12 p.m., showed the rapper exiting the venue just as gunshots rang out. Security guards working the event immediately told bystanders to take cover.

Wallingford Police Lt. Cheryl Bradley described the scene as “chaotic” when police arrived to the Oakdale.

“We received a 911 call from an employee at the Oakdale Theatre. The caller reported that he was outside of the Oakdale with a victim who was shot in the leg. Our units responding determined that there were actually four victims, two with non-life-threatening injuries, two victims determined to be deceased,” Bradley told reporters late Friday night.

“Everything occurred outside of the Oakdale, it appeared to be near closing, the closing of the event … At this time, we are looking into possible leads, suspect vehicles, descriptions.”
