The entertainment world is mourning the loss of iconic music executive Andre Harrell. The founder of Uptown records passed away at the age of 59. Harrell started in the music business as an artist first. He was one half of the duo Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde. The group had modest success in the early eighties with songs like ‘Genius Rap’ in 1981 and AM/PM in 1984.

However he is best known for starting his label Uptown Records in the early nineties. The company is responsible for Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, and Christopher Williams. Not to mention, giving a young intern name Sean “Puffy” Combs his first job in the music industry. Harrell also is responsible for producing the television show New York Undercover and the movie Strictly Business. He was truly an innovator and will be truly missed. Our condolences goes out to his family and friends.
