A major blackout has occurred in Venezuela for a second day and citizens are becoming uneasy about it. A problem at a hydroelectric plant caused the power to go out on Thursday afternoon. Although blackouts are common in a lot of Venezuelan provinces; this is the first time a blackout has occurred more than one day nationwide. Vice president Delcy Rodriquez and the Venezuela government has attributed the problem to sabotage from adversaries of their regime. “We will once again defeat this electrical sabotage. We are going to recover this important service for the population,” Rodriquez said.
Although there hasn’t been any concrete evidence that Venezuela power system is being sabotaged; there has been global resistance toward it’s president Nicolas Maduro. Over 40 governments have disavowed Maduro in favor of opposition leader Juan Guaido. In January, the United States issued severe oil sanctions towards Venezuela. Guaido went on Twitter and dismissed the governments sabotage claims and blamethe administration. “Sabotage is stealing money from Venezuelans. Sabotage is burning food and medicine. Sabotage is stealing elections,” he said. Maduro has claimed is a “puppet” of the United States used to gain control of Venezuela’s oil.
