In early August, the Chicago Police department made an attempt to arrest Chicago residents through a “bait truck.” The plan was to lure residents in the Englewood neighborhood to take shoe and other items out of truck parked in their neighborhood. The incident was caught on camera and gave another black eye to already tarnish reputation of Chicago’s Police Department.

Well Chicago rapper Vic Mensa took that negative situation and turned into a positive one. His foundation, Save Money Save Life set up “anti bait truck” giveaway in Englewood and passed out sneakers to kids in the neighborhood. “To see the police escort a bait truck full of shoes through a low-income neighborhood where people can’t afford basic necessities, it seemed very representative of how ill-equipped they are to deal with the city’s issues,” Mensa said to the New York Times. The Chicago Tribune reported that athletes and musicians donated to the cause. The end result was kids walking away with brands from Nike, Adidas, and more.
