In my opinion, the meeting was a not so subtle way for Kanye to thumb his nose at President Obama. Some people may recall the rocky relationship Kanye has had with the president throughout Obama tenure in office. In 2009, Obama called Yeezy a “jackass” after Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift at the MTV awards. In 2013, the president use Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian as an example of how the American Dream has been distorted. “We weren’t exposed to things we didn’t have in the same way that kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.” Obama said in his speech to Amazon employees that year.
Later that same year, Kanye blatantly spoke about how he felt him and Kim K were more influential than the Obama’s. “No one is looking at what [President] Obama is wearing,” he said. “Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.” The back and forth between the two Chicagoans seem to come to a halt in November 2014, when Kanye tweeted that “Me and my wife met with President Obama two weeks ago.” That tweet and meeting between the two seem more like a truce made for the midterm elections that year. Kanye also tweeted his support for the Democrats that year and urged people to vote. The following year he performed at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco. Although Kanye and Kim shared pictures of the meeting with Obama, it seem like more business than pleasure.
On the other hand, Kanye recent visit with Donald Trump was a little more chum. Trump even called Kanye a “great friend.” Kanye sent out a series of tweets saying that he met with Trump to “discuss the violence in Chicago,” “supporting teachers,” and to “modernize curriculums.” In addition to that he said he want to discuss “bullying” and “multicultural issues.” C’mon son. How you going to talk to a bully who wants to remove Muslims and build a wall for Mexicans about bullying and multicultural issues? Given his history of primitive “locker room talk,” I doubt that Trump wants to modernize anything. I’m guessing the discussion was more on how he used to grab Kris Jenner by the pussy back in the day. Or how his wife “Melania K” and Kanye’s wife “Kim K” would look good in a naked photo together.
Typing those things about the manager of our country, an entertainer for social change and their wives seems a little disrespectful. But that type of talk and behavior exhibits the history of Donald Trump, Kanye West and their wives. Do you really expect him to have intelligent conversation with anybody? The fact he has become president on that platform, truly makes him the person of the year. In spite of his shenanigans, you hope Trump has little more tact when he starts his job as the president. And regardless of who is in office; having a “direct line of communication” with the president, is some big shit.
My question is why didn’t have a discussion with Obama, a Chicago native, about the violence in Chicago? In April of this year, Obama invited a lot of rappers and entertainers to his crib to discuss strategies about his “My Brothers Keeper’s” program. Chance the Rapper was there, Busta Rhymes was there; he even had Rick Ross come while he was on house arrest. Plenty of rappers have expressed their brotherhood with Obama. Black Thought and Jeezy have both vocalized how they are close with the president. So what it is up with Kanye? One thing I know for sure, is that people don’t forget how you make them feel. Calling someone a jackass, shitting on their wife and lifestyle doesn’t seem friendly. I just believe Kanye was like fuck that! Y’all can have Obama; I’m going to ride out with Trump. Maybe I’m reading too much into it and trying to start some shit that doesn’t exist. Or maybe the egos of two powerful, influential men have caused a rivalry that they will not admit. Like a ping pong match, the serve is Obama. He has until the end of January before he leaves office. And don’t be surprised if he gets the last laugh. Besides, Kanye has already played his Trump card.
