Wu-Tang Clan Performance in Atlanta: Celebrating 25 years with my Heroes

I got an opportunity to see them perform in Atlanta this summer at the One Music Fest.  The two-day event featured a lot of legendary Hip Hop names, including Rick Ross, Gucci Mane and a reunion of Three 6 Mafia. However, the most buzz was generated from the presence of the Wu-Tang Clan. For me, the experience was a little more personal, based on my love for the group. Not only do I regard Wu as the greatest group of all time but (in any genre of music) I also tell people who will listen, that their music changed my life. Without going into much detail, let’s just say I consider these brothers my Hip Hop heroes.

I know I’m not alone in my sentiments regarding the group and their ability as Inspectah Deck said  to “kick the truth to the young Black youth.” That “truth” which over the years has transcended color, gender and age was evident before they hit the stage in Atlanta. There were so many people wearing Wu-Tang T-shirts, hats and other items that represented the group. There was a chant from the crowd before they hit the stage.

The Rza came out first and started introducing each member one by one.

Unfortunately, the venue only allowed me to stay in the photo pit for three songs, so I had to leave after Raekwon hit the stage.

I did get backstage and get a chance to get some interviews with a few of the members. Check out the footage below and stay tuned for the interviews in the next post.
