Young Thug wearing a Dress is Wrong but he is not the Problem

young thug 3In the Bible there is a scripture that condemns this behavior; in Deuteronomy 22:5 it says: “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” Deuteronomy‬ ‭22:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬. With that stated I wanted to establish as a man who believes in the word of God that I totally think Young Thug is bogus for his action. However I don’t think those actions are so extreme that he should be blame for the  emasculation of Black boys. This is the sentiment of people like Dr. Boyce Watkins and Internet people who see his actions as a endangerment to the Black community. But I in turn think it is a representation of the society we live in. Art imitates life and sadly our society has been acceptive of homosexual behavior. I wonder where is our morality when the first Black President approves transgender access to public restrooms? I heard Charlamagne tha God, who is one of the host on The Breakfast Club say that he believes people are born gay. Keep in mind The Breakfast Club is seen and heard by millions of people around the world. I believe those type of statements and legislations have a far more deeper impact on our society than Young Thug posing with a dress. 

Young Thug hasn’t sold over million copies on any mixtape or album. I think his actions is just desperation for attention. He wants to be more famous and sell more records. And up to this point, it seems he gets the most attention when he dresses like a woman. It is no different from Kanye West snatching the mic from Taylor Swift or going on a social media rant when he wants attention. And speaking of Kanye West; does anyone remember him wearing that leather skirt back in 2012? I guess no one remembers Prince wearing a blouse and high heels. Or Tyler Perry putting on a dress and wig in all his movies. This is the world of entertainment that we live in. Maybe this is why Dave Chapelle quit his show and moved out the country. Maybe this is why Denzel Washington doesn’t get naked in his movies. Some entertainers have standards and pride that won’t allow them to do certain things. By contrast, a lot of entertainers don’t care. 
young thug 4The messed up thing in Young Thug’s situation is that I don’t think he has to do it. I think the young man is a creative and talented artist without the shenanigans. I listen to the NMNIJ album and although it is not a classic album, he does have some jams on there. I particularly like the song he has with Wyclef Jean and another joint he has with Gucci Mane. Now I have heard people say things like ‘I’m not going to listen to that gay ass shit.” That’s fine but I don’t think listening to a gay artist makes you gay. I remember when I was young, I listened to Boy George and I listened to George Michael and Wham. More recently I found myself listening to Frank Ocean. Now I don’t watch Tyler Perry movies because i think they are corny but I think you get my point. It may be that because I am artist, I can separate reality from creativity and just appreciate the art. And to tell you the truth, the same people who are shitting on Young Thug now, will be able to do the same thing. Because despite all the hoopla  that’s going on; they will still play his songs on the radio. And when they do you will be singing along. And you know what else? The DJ’s are going to spin it in the club too; and when they do , you guys are going to be in the club dancing to it. So in the words of the legendary Pimp C (RIP) “y’all need to get off the boo boo” and stop fronting. 
I believe the main issue is the absence of the words of God. A lot of us go to churches that don’t emphasize the scriptures as it relates to society. A lot of us listen to preachers who can’t preach against homosexuality because their choir is gay. Or because some of their congregation is gay or even worse they are gay. By no means do they want to mess up the churches money on the behalf of truth. So what you see is a lot of prosperity preaching and motivational speaking. You see a lot of singing and dancing but not a lot of truth. “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”  Romans‬ ‭10:2-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬.  I Believe if we use the scriptures as a platform to implement in our society, then our world would be a little better. I think before we start blaming Young Thug and the entertainment industry as the culprits, we need do inventory check first. And last I check there are more churches in the hood than Young Thug albums. Once again the tabernacle has spoken and the church shall say amen.
