Grind Corner: Artist: Lunatic

The Black Truth News: Tell us more about the album

Lunatic: Well like I said, this is volume three, and I feel like I put my heart in it; this one and the first one, I put my heart and soul in it. The second one I was just dropping something; you know it was hot, and people was feeling it; but the last one, it’s like people are saying they feel each and every track. If I got ten tracks, I want make sure all ten are all classics. I know my album can compete with Jay and Kanye Watch the Throne album.  I’m working with two producers; Supreme and Lo-Key, who has produced tracks for L.E.P, Bump J and Pimp- C.

BTN: How long does it usually takes you to complete the songs for your mix-tape?

Tic:  If someone tells me that I have to have an album done in a month, I’m going to get it done. But since it’s no deadline, no pressure, I take my time. I want a chance for the people to know where I’m coming from, what I’m about. For those people who write about poppin bottles and talk about other people lifestyle; it may be easy. But you have to look in the mirror and face yourself. I try to keep it real with myself. My life it’s not like a movie. This is real life; so it may take me nine hours to write a song, on the other hand a song like ‘Ta the top’ which is track two on my album, a person called me from the barbershop, saying someone was talking mess, and I wrote about that situation; that song only took a hour or two. It just depends I guess.

BTN: What makes you want to get up every day and grind your work?

Tic: A belief in self, just believing in myself. Having a strong team, and people every day telling me to keep pushing it. Even when I was in New York, I was representing the same thing; L-Town, Chicago. That’s why I got the same cover with the State ID, it is what it is. People were feeling it so I’m rolling with it.

BTN: Any advice for artist out there trying to come up also?

TIC: I can’t really speak for anyone else; but I was chosen to do this. This is what is in me. Everybody ain’t cut out for this. You got to believe in yourself and keep it real and do you. That’s what I try to do. When I write, I’m looking at the people at the top like Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nas, and Lupe Fiasco. Lupe is one of my favorite artists; he’s not famous but he has longevity. That’s what it’s about longevity; staying relevant
