Blind Woman Sues Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment For Website Discrimination

The suit asserts the Beyonce.com website is not fully accessible for people with visual impairments. Conner is taking “civil rights action” because she claims to be unable to use the page without the assistance of a sighted companion.

“The one and only form of entertainment that truly presents an even playing field between the visually impaired and the sighted is the joy of music,” reads the complaint.

It adds, “Plaintiff dreams of attending a Beyonce concert and listening to her music in a live setting. However, when she browsed the Beyonce.com website, she encountered numerous barriers which limited her accessibility to the goods and services offered on the website.”

Conner wants a court injunction to force Parkwood to alter the site in order to make it compliant with the ADA. She is also said to be seeking compensatory damages for class members that have “been subjected to unlawful discrimination.”

The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. The federal law protects Americans with disabilities against discrimination. There have been numerous ADA violation court cases in the US, including litigation involving other websites such as Expedia.com and Hotels.com.
