Susan J. Boutwell, interim director of the Dartmouth Office of Public Affairs, said in a statement to the Huffington Post that the school is currently in the process of gathering information about the ‘scope and nature of the event and will follow its standard process’ to determine if the organizers and participants of the party violated Dartmouth’s College Standards of Conduct.
This is not the first time that a Dartmouth fraternity has gotten in trouble for throwing a themed party.
In 1998, the New York Times reported that Chi Gamma Epsilon and Alpha Xi Delta sparked an outrage after co-hosting a ‘ghetto party’ where guests dressed as ‘gangsta rap artists,’ complete with Afro wigs and toy guns.
Although the Greek organizations at the center of the controversy quickly apologized for the event, the incident prompted demonstrations and meetings on campus.
