Derrick Rose out indefinitely

Rose was injured on Friday without contact as he changed direction in the third-quarter of the Bulls 98-95 loss to the Portland Trailblazers.

The three-time All-Star and former league MVP missed the 2012-13 campaign after he tor the ACL in his left knee during the playoffs of the previous season.

Bulls teammates immediately began to rally around their 25-year-old playmaker.

“I know he’s a strong guy who worked extremely hard this summer to get his body right, working out every day,” Taj Gibson told the Chicago Tribune after Friday’s game. “So it sucks that it had to happen, but that’s what happens in this league. It’s a tough league.

“I went in there and checked on him. He said he was doing OK. He didn’t seem nervous. Of course, he’s a competitor so he was more focused on us trying to pull that win out. He was just focused on us getting that win.

“Now, the focus is on what the MRI will say. But he’s having good hopes. His head was high. He wasn’t down, feeling sorry for himself.”

Rose’s feelings may have changed now that the prognosis is known and is very dire.

Rose was medically cleared to play during the 2012-13 regular season and he chose to keep his hoop dreams at bay while he mentally retrieved his confidence.

To have this happen so early into his return which has been just a hair shy of average could certainly send his psyche into a tailspin.

As for Chicago, they as a unit as used to life without their biggest star.

Its to early to calculate an early demise for the Bulls as they were resilient last season.

The Bulls scooped an Eastern Conference quarterfinals win from the clutches of the Brooklyn Nets without Rose.

That’s not a bad haul for any team.

Much will be said until Rose returns to the court.

If recent history is any indication, it may be 2014-15 before that is a possibility.
